Conductor Richard Sabino received his musical training in piano and trumpet beginning at age 6 in Utica, New York. Moving to Florida in the early 60’s he continued with various trumpet teachers including Don Owen at University of South Florida, Howard Snell of the London Symphony Orchestra and Tom Wohlwender of the Cleveland Orchestra.

His study of conducting began in junior high school. In 1968, while participating in a summer music festival which included the London Symphony Orchestra as the resident orchestra, he received a little insight about the study of conducting from the LSO’s conductor, Andre Previn. In June of 2008 Sabino completed the “Professional Course” of the Michael Palmer International Conducting Workshop with the New Atlanta Philharmonic.

Richard has been invited to return as a guest conductor of the New Atlanta Philharmonic. Maestro Sabino has appeared as guest conductor with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, the Dnepropetrovsk National Symphony Orchestra (Ukraine) and twice with Kiev’s State Academic Concert Orchestra.

Education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Performance received from the University of South Florida in 1973 and a Master’s in Arts Administration from the University of Illinois, Springfield in 1978. (Sangamon State University) While in Illinois, Richard performed in the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and the Millikin University Faculty Brass Quintet.

In 1976 Richard received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts to study in one of the first arts management programs in the country. As part of this innovative program he served as a management intern with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra where he later returned as acting manager prior to taking a management position with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. He also held management positions with the Florida Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, the Baton Rouge and Jackson/Hinds County Arts Councils and was Executive Director of Baton Rouge’s River City Festivals Association.

Richard left non-profit arts management in 1991. Returning to Melbourne, he joined the Community Band of Brevard as principal trumpet and joined the Melbourne Municipal Band, where he had been a member in 1968-69 and again in 1974-1975. He also served on the boards of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the Henagar Center for the Arts.

In 1999 Richard organized the Central Florida Winds and two years later began the Central Florida Chamber Winds. Considered the premier wind orchestra in Central Florida, musicians from throughout Florida participate on a volunteer basis. Mr. Sabino still serves as music director and conductor of both groups as well as of the new Riverside Chamber Orchestra and Chorus. He is also the Artistic Director for the Dr. Vernon Boushell Concert Series (Cocoa Beach).

In addition to his work as conductor, Richard is an experienced Financial Advisor with Edward Jones.

His office is located in Satellite Beach, Florida.
